Prohibited Items Policy

What cannot be listed or sold on PaperCrane, and what happens when it is.
Draft prepared August 2, 2026 for attorney review. Part of our Terms of Service.

1. What this policy covers

PaperCrane is a marketplace for lawful second-hand and wholesale clothing sold by the businesses that own it. This policy describes what cannot be listed or sold here. The categories below share one theme: if an item is fake, stolen, recalled, hazardous, or described in a way that hides something a buyer would care about, it does not belong on the platform. You are responsible for every item inside every lot you list. In bulk resale, problem items arrive buried inside otherwise-legitimate bales and manifests, and “it was buried in the bale” is not a defense for listing one.

2. Counterfeit and replica goods

You cannot list counterfeit, replica, or knockoff items in any form. This includes items described as “inspired by,” “AAA,” “1:1,” “mirror,” “unbranded designer,” or any other euphemism for a fake, and it includes genuine items whose tags have been altered, removed, or reattached to change what they appear to be. A branded lot must be authentic all the way through. Listing it is your statement that it is. Our Counterfeit & Stolen Goods Policy explains how we handle violations, which are treated more severely than anything else in this document.

3. Stolen property

You cannot sell goods obtained by theft or fraud. That includes shoplifted retail merchandise, stolen cargo or freight, merchandise from organized retail crime, and any lot you cannot lawfully resell. You must have good title to everything you list. We cooperate with law enforcement on stolen-goods reports and preserve records for their investigations; the Counterfeit & Stolen Goods Policy covers this in detail.

4. Recalled items

You cannot sell items subject to a recall by the Consumer Product Safety Commission or any other regulator. Federal law prohibits selling recalled products, and that prohibition applies to second-hand sales. For a clothing reseller this matters more than most sellers expect: children's outerwear with neck or waist drawstrings, children's sleepwear that fails flammability standards, and garments recalled for lead or phthalate content in snaps, zippers, or printed designs are all recalled categories that routinely turn up in bulk lots. Pulling them before listing is part of the job. If you find a recalled item in a lot you have already listed, remove it and correct the listing before anyone buys.

5. Undisclosed damage and misdescription

Damage does not make an item prohibited. Hiding it does. Stains, odors (smoke, mildew, mothballs), holes, broken zippers, missing buttons, and heavy wear must be disclosed in the listing, and a lot described by piece count must actually contain that count. Selling damaged goods described as damaged is normal wholesale. Selling them described as “excellent condition” is a violation of this policy, and in practice a Buyer Protection claim waiting to happen.

6. Hazardous and unsanitary items

You cannot sell clothing or textiles that are wet, moldy, pest-infested (including any lot that has been exposed to bed bugs or moths), contaminated with chemicals or bodily fluids, or otherwise unsanitary. If part of a lot is contaminated, treat the whole lot as suspect; pests and mold do not respect the boundaries of a listing photo.

Some goods are prohibited regardless of condition, because their sale is restricted or dangerous in itself:

  • Weapons and weapon parts
  • Flammable or pressurized goods
  • Drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • Food, supplements, and cosmetics, whether new or used
  • Products made from protected wildlife: furs, skins, or feathers of protected species

7. Listings outside apparel

PaperCrane is for apparel, footwear, and accessories sold wholesale. We remove listings for unrelated goods (electronics, medical devices, gift cards, tickets, accounts, and anything intangible) even where those goods are legal to sell elsewhere, because our review, shipping, and dispute processes are built for clothing. If you are not sure whether something belongs, ask us before listing it.

8. Inventory you do not have

List only inventory you physically possess and can ship yourself. Drop-shipping from other marketplaces is prohibited, and so is listing photos of stock you hope to acquire, or offering the same lot in two places and shipping whichever sells second late or never. Buyers here are buying the specific goods in your photos, from you.

9. Enforcement

When a listing violates this policy we remove it, and depending on severity and history we may warn you, suspend your account, or close it permanently. Payouts connected to a prohibited-item sale may be held while we investigate and used to refund affected buyers. Counterfeits, stolen goods, and repeat violations skip the warning step. Suspension does not erase your obligations on orders already placed.

10. Reporting

Every listing can be reported from within the app, and reports of counterfeit, stolen, or recalled goods are reviewed first. Rights owners should use our Intellectual Property Policy and DMCA process.
